Project Launches
Thursday, July 03, 2008
Launches were held for the ViTCCU project in Melbourne and Bendigo this month.

The Melbourne launch of the project was held at the stunning Telstra convention centre on the evening of the 19th of June.

Speakers were introduced by Bruce Winzar (CIO LMHA) and included Alan Taylor (LMHA Chair), Lynne Thomson (DBCDE), Michael Consolo (Telstra), Mike Sommers (Cerner), Julie Fahey (KPMG) and Dr Fergus Kerr (Austin Health Director of Emergency).

Dr Fergus Kerr spoke about the positive aspects of this project including:

  • Using technology to level the playing field with respect to delivering health care to those in rural and remote areas
  • Making better calls with regard to the need for retrieval of patients in these centres, through access to vision and patient telemetry
  • Junior or inexperienced clinicians will now have the means to get the best advice and support for urgent cases
  • Getting the right care to the right patient in the right time.

Each of the key suppliers spoke about their involvement and why they felt the project was important. A very successful launch.

The Bendigo launch was held at Café au Lait on the evening of the 26th of June.

Bendigo Health’s Director of Emergency Dr Salomon Zalstein spoke of how this project would benefit the region and how pleased he was to be able to work more closely with his Loddon Mallee colleagues. "I am looking forward to the way this project will link with the Adult Retrieval Service and the time savings this will initiate for patients being transferred to Melbourne, or from other regional centres,”

Swan Hill CEO Ted Rayment spoke about the wide applicability of this technology for health services in regional and remote parts of Australia.

Thanks again to all those who played a role in getting this project running.
