Virtual Trauma and Critical Care Unit
The Cerner clinical application used for the ViTCCU project is DICOM compatible and it is proposed that a firewalled link at each site be established to provide connectivity between the radiology network and the Cerner DICOM server located on the ViTCCU network. The firewall would allow only DICOM related traffic for the purposes of study upload between relevant Modalities or the PACS and the Cerner DICOM Server. As per the project brief each site is connected via 100Mb links and thus adequate for effective DICOM data transfer.
The process, once connected, would be for either the individual modalities or the PACS (where one exists) at each site to have the Cerner DICOM server as a send destination for relevant studies. A process then developed for either the Modality or the PACS to transfer only relevant studies into the Cerner DICOM Server. The Cerner DICOM server does not require query/retrieve functionality as it is assumed that relevant studies will be pushed to it, thus overcoming any access or privacy issues within each sites Modalities or PACS.
