Virtual Trauma and Critical Care Unit
There have been many different trials of this type of technology, and that is continuing. Some of the challenges in the past have included:
- no formal engagement process between hospitals, so if an individual relationship did not exist, communication could not happen
- established as one-to-one, rather than one-to-many to provide for backup in the event of hospital bypass
- not a dedicated network, so other traffic may have impacted the throughput or performance of the technology
- lack of buy-in by clinical staff - seen as extra work for no value
This pilot includes some key factors which we hope will mitigate these previous failures:
1. Formal engagement process between hospitals using Adult Retrieval Victoria
2. Key staff at each hospital involved in the design of the system and processes
3. Dedicated equipment and networking infrastructure
4. Training and awareness program planned, working with Society of GPs to include module in training.
